Professor Roy Chan explained why sexually-transmitted diseases are managed by dermatologists

Interview with Professor Roy Chan, former Director of the National Skin Centre and Founding President of Action for AIDS (Singapore). He explained why sexually-transmitted diseases are managed by dermatologists in Singapore, and also discussed the state of HIV social acceptance and management in Singapore

“That’s where I thought I could perhaps do something because there was nothing  available at a point in time and when you want to reach a population you need to know how to reach a population and need to have the capacity to do it and there was zero. So I set up ActionforAIDS  as a Non-Government Organisation(NGO) which would be able to move things especially education, changing attitude and advocating for infected persons in high risk groups that is how I got involved and I am still here 27 years helping, making sure that it continues on . In the early years we were the first people who pushed to bring antiretroviral medication which wasn’t available here.  Over the years we have advocated for making treatment accessible and without a lot of our programs many more people would be dead by now and also continue to push for the rights  of infected person as human beings and not to considered as criminals.”
